How it works

  1. 01

    Your iPhone is the microphone

Place it upright against the driver’s headrest, right where your ears are. Tuno plays test tones through your car speakers via Bluetooth and records them.

  2. 02

We measure what each control does

You turn bass, mid and treble up a few steps, one at a time. Tuno hears exactly what those controls do in your car, with your interior.

  3. 03

    You get three numbers

Tuno works out the best setting, for example Bass 0, Mid −5, Treble +5, and checks it with one more measurement.

Measured in real cars

Two of our first test drives, with the real results from the app.

Toyota Yaris, standard audio

Treble dropped off sharply in this car. With mid at −5 and treble at +5 the score went from 55 to 65, confirmed by a check measurement. It sounded fuller and clearer, not harsh.

BMW 220, Harman Kardon

A premium system that was already tuned at the factory. Tuno says so honestly: everything at 0 is the best setting. Then you pay nothing.

Questions

Does it work with my car?

With almost every car that has tone controls for bass and treble, or bass, mid and treble, and Bluetooth audio. Equalizers with five or more bands will follow later.

Why Bluetooth and not CarPlay?

With CarPlay, an iPhone can’t play sound to the car and record with its own microphone at the same time. So you measure once via Bluetooth. Afterwards you can use CarPlay as usual; the settings in your car stay as they are.

Which iPhone do I need?

An iPhone with a recent version of iOS. Every iPhone microphone hears slightly differently; Tuno takes that into account.

Do I need to get out of the car?

Yes, during each measurement for about 20 seconds. Tuno counts down, tells you when to get out, and plays a sound when you can get back in.

What happens to my recordings?

Nothing leaves your phone. The test tones are analysed on your iPhone itself. Tuno has no account and no server.

Which languages?

English, Dutch, German and French. Tuno follows the language of your iPhone.
